A renowned British master, Harold Hitchcock paints visionary landscapes and prismatic still lifes. He painted his first portrait at age 9. By age 14, he was declared a prodigy by the British Press. He is also a descendent of the pre-eminent British painter Georges Stubbs.

Harold remembers how it all began. As a child visiting his grandfather, he stopped to watch the dawn when he was struck by the sight of the sun splayed into a huge arc behind a grove of ancient elms. "I suddenly felt beside myself with joy. It was a very ecstatic feeling, and so intense that to this day the influence remains very strong. There was a wonderful feeling of harmony and well being and peace. It was that one moment that touched off something within me and made me wish to recapture it through painting."

Harold paints oils and watercolors. His themes are of imaginary countrysides, Arthurian figures, and water under the effect of the sun. The motifs and symbols in his work evoke feelings of connection to ancient myths and legends and remind us of our collective human experience.

Harold Hitchcock has exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Academy of London, and in numerous galleries in Canada, Australia, and the United States. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Art , and included in the Benezit dictionary of painters and Sculptors. His work is in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Huterian Museum in Glasgow, the Hannen and Stoers Museum in Holland, the University of Louisiana, the Lidice Memorial Museum in Czechoslovakia, the University Library in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and the Museum of Art in North Carolina.
